MISUMI / TECHNICAL BUYING GUIDE 1.1.0
Scrap retention: distinguish retention from hole quality
Check the punched-out item and the exact series before using retention features.
Why the distinction matters
MISUMI’s selection guide describes internal inclined grooves that form small projections on scrap; pushing the scrap onward compresses those projections to resist lifting. The same guide excludes precision-hole work and cases where the punched-out piece is the product.
The guide identifies limits involving hole size, tensile strength, thickness and clearance. Those limits are series-dependent selection evidence, not a blanket approval for your die.
Separate the installation options
The supplied SRS drawing distinguishes headed and straight configurations. Use the exact drawing and complete code; do not assume identical shank tolerances or installation details.
Bring the process evidence
- State whether the slug is scrap or product.
- Provide material certification and the full thickness range.
- Define whether a clearance value is per side or diametral.
- Record the observed scrap path, punch condition and lubrication.
- Agree a trial and inspection plan before production release.
