A dimensional calculation, with explicit limits on what it can prove.
Calculate the clearance interval
All inputs are diameters in millimetres. Minimum clearance = minimum bore − maximum shank. Maximum clearance = maximum bore − minimum shank. Negative clearance means interference. The calculation does not predict press-in force, stress, temperature effects or safe retention.
The bore defaults are illustrative inputs. The shank defaults come from the historical D13 example; neither is a recommended installation.
What the calculation cannot establish
- Whether the holder material and wall thickness can sustain assembly loads.
- Whether surface finish, roundness, taper or temperature changes invalidate the limits.
- Whether the drawing requires a different fit or mechanical retention.
Ask the responsible engineer to approve the actual installation and acceptance measurements.
